Position Summary

The Corporate + Foundation Relations Director creates and implements the strategy for all major foundation and corporate prospects/donors, partnering closely with the Chief Advancement Officer. This position will manage a portfolio of foundation and corporate prospects through the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship cycles. The Corporate + Foundation Relations Director will craft and submit proposals for corporate/foundation prospects ranging from $100,000 – $10M+, and will manage a part-time Grants Lead. This position will establish and oversee clearly defined and measurable goals for the Dempsey Center’s CFR work, and establish appropriate metrics to assess their individual and team performance.

Critical qualities for this position include a demonstrated career track record in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and closing five- and six-figure gifts from foundations and/or corporations, and an entrepreneurial spirit in developing new relationships and funding opportunities. This individual must be self-motivated, goal-driven, and able to work with a high degree of independence.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Set strategic direction for and manage the implementation of the Dempsey Center’s strategic corporate and foundation relations agenda.
  • Manage a portfolio of corporate and foundation prospects of all capacity levels in various stages of development.
  • Develop partnerships with mutual benefit to corporations/foundations and the Dempsey Center that generate significant and transformational funding for the Center.
  • Foster and leverage existing corporate/foundation relationships to identify areas of opportunity for all parties.
  • Cultivate and steward productive high-level partnerships between the Center and existing and prospective corporate/foundation constituents.
  • Facilitate engagement of Center leadership in cultivation and solicitation activities with corporate and foundation decision-makers to leverage strategic interests.
  • Plan and execute cultivation events and other opportunities to bring together targeted corporate and foundation partners with Center leaders to cultivate their engagement with and support for strategic priorities.
  • Facilitate development and execution of partnership agreements and collateral materials to promote partnership opportunities.
  • Maintain currency on best practices and trends in corporate partnerships and foundation giving.
  • Supervise part-time Grants Lead, who manages the grants calendar, monitors progress, crafts proposals and reports, and ensures that all reporting and application deadlines are met on time or ahead of schedule.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 or more years of related experience in development with evidence of progressive success and responsibilities in corporate and foundation relations and grant writing. Or, comparable experience in a corporate sales, marketing, or public relations environment.

Licensure, Registration, and Certification

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to effectively communicate with employees, clients, Board members, donors and potential donors, volunteers, consultants, advisors, and members of the community.

Math Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.

Computer Operations

Requires intermediate or better proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook, or equivalent.

Supervision Received

Receives very general guidance based on broad objectives for the job. Work is conducted in collaboration with others while maintaining alignment with organizational directives and guidelines. Independent judgment is used to achieve assigned objectives.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This is a supervisory position. The incumbent is granted authority to take “tangible employment action” (i.e., hire, fire, promote, demote, reassign with significantly different responsibilities, or cause a significant change in employment benefits). The incumbent is required to adhere to established personnel policies and procedures when performing the supervisory duties of this role.

Dexterity

The job requires some motor ability such as the handling or operation of a telephone, personal computer, copy machine, etc.; such operations are not a primary component of the job, nor is speed a basic requirement.
